Dr. Gergely Róbert

Professional experience

I have studied and acquired my experience at the Department of Ophthalmology at Semmelweis University where I had the opportunity to learn and treat (and later to teach) a wide range of ophthalmic diseases.

I mastered the surgeries of complicated cataract cases and I continued my subspecialization in vitreous and retinal diseases. With well-founded knowledge I use with confidence the latest drug and injection treatments and master the state-of-the-art laser surgeries (vaporization of vitreous opacities, subthreshold laser treatment of the retina and glaucoma).

Being a proud pioneer of the new treatments I also find it important to report on these new treatment methods on various professional forums.

I follow the Hungarian professional guidelines as well as the international protocols for the eye treatments. On the other hand I think of it as a challenge to diagnose and treat the rare diseases too. In such cases, in addition to professional knowledge proficiency I consider it key to record thoroughly the complaints of the patient.

In addition to patient care at the Department of Ophthalmology at Semmelweis University I have participated in the education of hungarian and foreign medical students and residents. For more than a decade I have taught ophthalmic residents from all over the country to general ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery.

I am a regular participant and speaker at professional
congresses and other fellow professional trainings. I regularly publish and review publications in recognized domestic and international journals.

Although I have participated in many clinical researches, my main research area is the retinal diseases, especially the pachychoroid and the central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR).

To this day I get a lot of referrals and second opinion requests for a wide range of ophthalmic diseases.
